An innovative housing project offering essential accommodation for homeless young people and facilities for the local community, has secured the funds necessary to complete the development.
YMCA Birmingham’s The Orchard, located in Erdington, will receive a cash injection of £1million from the Homes and Communities Agency to fund the cost of expanding the scheme, offering more young people much needed housing and support. The grant will also go towards extending the training facilities which help to improve employability and life skills, provide a community cafe and a meeting space for Birmingham residents.
Alan Fraser, CEO of YMCA Birmingham, said: “This grant will allow us to complete this flagship development and provide further, much needed housing for young people at a time of unprecedented housing shortage.”
