With your support, YMCA South Midlands can help young people find their place
Young people like Lucy need urgent support
At the age of 16, Lucy experienced a family breakdown and homelessness. She often stayed with friends, but on nights when she had nowhere else to go, she slept on the streets. She was uncertain about what would happen next until she came to YMCA. At YMCA, Lucy found a place to call home alongside emotional support, life skills sessions and support to return to college.
Lucy now has hobbies and volunteers. She dreams of becoming a YMCA support worker so she can support other young people. With support from YMCA, Lucy has built confidence and is working towards the future she wants.

How YMCA RoomSponsors make a difference
YMCA South Midlands offers support to young people that is tailored to their individual needs and aspirations.
A place to call home is just one part of that. Young people can access a wider package of support and opportunities to help them build confidence, develop skills and work towards greater independence.

What your £12 RoomSponsor gift goes towards:
We ask for £12 a month to contribute towards a complete package of support tailored to the individual needs and aspirations of young people at YMCA South Midlands.
- Bedding and clothing
- Counselling
- Welfare and debt advice
- Life skills sessions – like learning to cook and how to manage money
- Access to education or apprenticeships.

RoomSponsor Frequently Asked Questions
Your gift doesn’t fund a specific room but contributes towards the support available to the young person staying there. This can include counselling, life skills sessions and essentials such as clothing.
There is no obligation or expectation that you will write to the young people you are helping, but many RoomSponsors do, and you are more than welcome to.
When you sign up, you’ll receive a welcome pack. In that pack, we include a blank note and return envelope if you would like to send a message. Letters or cards should be sent to YMCA England & Wales.
Young people will not answer your letters directly. All communications will be via YMCA England & Wales. For this reason, we ask that you do not write or call individual YMCAs.
All communications and updates are authentic. At a young person’s request, we may sometimes protect their identity by changing their name and using an alternative image.
The amount of time a young person can stay at YMCA depends on the campus and letting policy for the property.
During their time at YMCA, support is shaped around their needs and aspirations, helping them build confidence, develop skills and work towards greater independence.
