Relating to Safeguarding of Vulnerable People

People of all ages and abilities find it incredibly rewarding to support YMCA and their local community through volunteering or donating. Whilst Fundraising is an essential part of YMCA England & Wales’s activities to cover increasing need for our services to young people, we are mindful that some of our caring supporters may potentially be vulnerable themselves.

Along with our Supporter Promise we work to ensure that we treat everyone appropriately, respectfully and fairly and remain alert to any particular vulnerabilities or needs an individual might have.

Protecting Supporters and treating them fairly

• We will do our best to make our fundraising information clear and
• We will always treat supporters fairly, taking into account any additional needs they have to enable them to make an informed decision about donating.
• We will never pressure someone into making a
• We will always be alert to signs that someone may be confused or vulnerable and need additional support.
• We will not take advantage of mistakes made by a supporter, exploit their lack of knowledge or need for care.
• We will not accept a donation from an individual if we believe they lack the capacity to make the decision to donate and will ensure they are not asked to donate again.
• We will not ask for a donation if a person clearly indicates that they do not wish to engage with our fundraising activity.
• We will not deny someone the right to give because of their age or circumstances, so long as this is what they want to do.
• We will not make general assumptions and will treat each person on an individual

In all our fundraising, we adhere fully to the Fundraising Code of Practice, in respect of both the legal rules that apply to fundraising and the standards designed to ensure that fundraising is open, honest and respectful.

• We are registered with and regulated by the Fundraising Regulator (Membership Number: 000206).
• We are members of and adhere to the standards of the Institute of Fundraising (Membership Number: Z2043125).
