Every week, more than 1,000 young people are at risk of homelessness across England & Wales

There are many reasons why young people can find themselves with nowhere to stay. However, as the cost of living continues to rise in the UK, we fear the number of young people on the streets will increase. Those who are ‘sofa surfing’ right now may soon be asked to leave by family or friends who can’t afford to accommodate them anymore. It is cold, dark, and dangerous. Being out in the cold all day will have a detrimental effect on their health and future. This is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention.

But with your support, YMCA can be there for them today.

Payroll Giving Frequently Asked Questions

By signing up for Payroll Giving, you can make a regular, tax-free donation to YMCA. Payroll Giving comes out of your salary before tax every month so that you can give more for less. It is also known as Give As You Earn (GAYE).

Payroll Giving, also known as workplace giving or give as you earn, is a scheme that allows employees to donate to charity directly from their salary before tax is deducted. It’s an easy and tax-effective way to give to charities of your choice.

Employees authorise their employer to deduct a chosen amount from their salary each pay period. This amount is then sent to a registered charity of the employee’s choice.

The benefits:

  • It’s quick and easy
  • You can make a difference to young people with a monthly donation
  • It costs you less to give more – it’s tax-free

Payroll Giving allows you to support charities tax-effectively, as donations are deducted from your gross salary before tax is applied. This means you receive tax relief on your donation immediately, making your donation go further.

An example of what you can give is below:

If you pay 20% tax, every £10 donated will only cost you £8, or if you pay 40% tax, it will only cost you £6.

  • £5 will only cost you £4 or £3 if you pay 40% tax
  • £15 will only cost you £12 or £9 if you pay 40% tax
  • £30 will only cost you £24 or £18 if you pay 40% tax
