YMCA England & Wales takes the welfare of all staff and volunteers seriously. Safeguarding involves doing all we can to protect everyone from harm and abuse, both inside and, as much as we can, outside of work. This includes reporting any concerns, allegations or disclosures of abuse.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
As an employee, you need to know what action to take should you be concerned about the safety and wellbeing of anyone, or if they tell you something that causes you to believe they may have experienced or are currently experiencing harm or abuse.
Our Thrive Safeguarding e-learning module will help you understand how to identify the signs that someone may have been, or is currently being harmed or abused. There is also details about what you should do to report it. For shop based staff there is further information provided in the shop safeguarding folder.
In most cases, you should aim to complete your training prior to your first day. If for whatever reason this does not take place, you will be required to complete the training during your first week.
There are two sections to the training: Child and adult safeguarding. When you have completed both sections, a certificate will be made available. Please click on the certificate to register your completion of the full course. If the certificate is not available, there is a section that remains incomplete. You must complete all sections for the certificate to be available.
Instructions of how to complete the training can be found below.
Please note that the module focuses on ways in which people can be abused. Should you find the content upsetting, support is available from the HR department.
Should you wish to discuss the safeguarding training before you complete the e-Learning module, please contact a member of HR on 020 7186 9507.
