YMCA Response to DWP announcement

YMCA Response to DWP announcement

Denise Hatton, Chief Executive, YMCA England & Wales, said:

“The announcement of additional investment into the Connect to Work programme is an important and welcome step towards breaking down the barriers faced by sick and disabled people, and those with complex needs, in securing and sustaining meaningful employment.

At YMCA, we know from our daily work across 708 communities in England and Wales that access to personalised support, skills development and employment opportunities can transform lives. Last year alone, almost 24,000 people gained qualifications or vital employment skills through YMCA programmes, helping them to build confidence, independence and a brighter future.

The expansion of tailored employment support will make a real difference – not just for individuals, but for families and communities too. It is essential that this funding continues to reach those who need it most, and that voluntary sector partners like YMCA remain at the heart of delivery to ensure support is truly person-centred and locally rooted.

We stand ready to work alongside government and local authorities to make sure this programme has the greatest possible impact, ensuring that everyone – regardless of their circumstances – has the opportunity to belong, contribute and thrive.”
