YMCA response to the General Election 2024 Announcement

Denise Hatton, Chief Executive, YMCA England & Wales, said:

“Yesterday evening, the Prime Minister announced a General Election on 4 July. This is a pivotal moment for our nation, and first and foremost, I urge every eligible young person to register to vote and make sure their voice is heard.

“Young people are the future of our country, and their perspectives, needs, and aspirations must be at the forefront of political discourse. This election presents a crucial opportunity for young people to influence the direction of our nation and ensure that their priorities are reflected in the policies of the next Government.

“At YMCA, we see firsthand the challenges and opportunities young people face every day. Whether it’s securing affordable housing, accessing quality education and mental health services, or finding meaningful employment, the issues impacting them are varied and significant. The next Government must listen to young voices and work diligently to integrate their concerns into actionable outcomes.

“YMCA will, as ever, continue to advocate for policies that enhance the wellbeing and opportunities of all young people across the country. Let’s ensure that the next Government is one that prioritises youth, invests in their future, and collaborates with them to build a brighter, more inclusive society.
